What is IRATA Level 3?

IRATA Level 3 is the highest technical certification in industrial rope access. Level 3 technicians are qualified to act as Rope Access Safety Supervisors, taking responsibility for the safety of entire rope access teams, project planning, risk assessment, and emergency response coordination.

As a Level 3 supervisor, you become the critical safety authority on-site, ensuring all work proceeds in accordance with IRATA’s International Code of Practice, relevant legislation, and documented safety procedures. This role combines advanced technical skills with leadership, decision-making, and project management capabilities.

Prerequisites for Level 3 Training

Experience Requirements

  • Valid Level 2 Certification: Your current IRATA Level 2 certificate must be valid on the assessment day
  • Minimum 12 Months Experience: At least one year from your Level 2 assessment date
  • 1,000 Working Hours: Documented and signed off in your IRATA logbook by another Level 3 supervisor
  • Full Competency at Level 2: Complete mastery of all Level 2 practical and theory requirements

Additional Prerequisites

  • Current First-Aid Certificate: Required before Level 3 training begins (appropriate to your work location and industry)
  • Leadership Experience: While not formally tested, supervisory aptitude is essential
  • Communication Skills: Ability to brief teams, liaise with clients, and manage incidents

Pre-Course Preparation

Level 3 training is intensive and assumes complete competency at Levels 1 and 2. Candidates should:
